Welcome to the Hardware Lab

Hardware Lab @ HSRM is a research group in the computer science department at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences (HSRM). Our goal is to develop and build electronic hardware systems that are safe and secure. And our research path towards this goal is the adaption of open-source software principles into building open-source hardware.

To this end, we develop software/hardware co-designs. Practically this means a composition of designing our own mikrochips, writing software for embedded systems and everything inbetween (Tooling, NP-hard problems, resilience against new approaches, etc.). Doing all this in open-source is a fresh and new approach to get back digital sovereignty, but it’s not quite common yet. Applied cryptography is one of our most implemented usecases throughout our research projects, as it fits perfectly to the principles of openness (see Kerckhoffs principle).

We are looking for passionate Bachelor, Master and PhD students to join the team (more info) !

We are grateful for funding from Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung and Hessisches Ministerium des Innern und für Sport.
